The History of San Carlos Community Garden

  • Growing Community

The San Carlos Community Garden (SCCG) was established in 2012 with a grant funded by the San Diego Health and Services Agency and the tireless support from countless community volunteers. SCCG is a joint-use community garden in partnership with the Sierra School of San Diego, a specialized K-12 school that helps children with learning disabilities grow and achieve success.

  • Growing Variety

The San Carlos Community Garden provides a safe and beautiful space for the community to grow their own healthy and organic food, flowers and spirit. SCCG offers 63 raised community garden plots, a 30-fruit-tree orchard, 12 raised garden beds for Sierra Academy students, a 160-ft. dry creek bed planted with California natives, an herb garden surrounding a labryinth, an outdoor classroom amphitheater, a Fire Safe Landscaping demonstration. SCCG is also a designated Monarch Way Station and Food2Soil Composting Site.

  • Growing Our Future

The San Carlos Community Garden’s mission encourages healthy living and stewardship of the earth. In addition to growing community with our garden plots, SCCG hosts classes, workshops and events for all ages. Check out our upcoming events HERE.
